Southern Coast and Whale Season

Three days on the south coast with a dawn boat out of Mirissa harbour and an afternoon inside the Galle ramparts.

Overview

A short coastal run for travellers with limited time, using the southern expressway to reach Mirissa in about three hours from Colombo. The boat leaves the harbour at 6.30am, when the water is flattest and the blue whales are feeding off the continental shelf. Afternoons are left open, with the Galle ramparts forty five minutes up the coast if you want a walk at sunset. Sightings run from November to April, and the boat does not operate outside that window.
